The Michelin Guide's debut in Texas highlighted Austin's vibrant dining scene, presenting its inaugural list of award-winning restaurants. This guide, announced on November 11, featured restaurants from Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, and Fort Worth. Austin earned seven one-star designations, with no two or three-star ratings. Notable inclusions were barbecue spots Interstellar BBQ, La Barbecue, and LeRoy and Lewis Barbecue, which made history by earning Michelin stars for American barbecue. Additionally, Austin had 15 Bib Gourmand recipients for quality dining at reasonable prices and 23 recommended restaurants showcasing diverse and innovative culinary offerings. Unique distinctions included Michelin Green stars for sustainable practices awarded to Dai Due and Emmer & Rye, emphasizing environmental responsibility.

Michelin's ratings are based on the quality, creativity, and consistency of the dishes, with inspectors evaluating the food alone, excluding decor and service. The one-star rating is awarded to establishments with high-quality cooking worth a visit. Bib Gourmands highlight exceptional cuisine that is also affordable, while the Michelin Green stars acknowledge restaurants committed to sustainability.
The list featured award-winning chefs and venues with a significant impact on Austin's dining reputation, like Edgar Rico of Nixta Taqueria receiving the Young Chef Award. This recognition signals a bright future for Austin's dining culture as it aligns with globally renowned culinary standards.
